We go to great lengths to use the most efficient codecs we can to provide you with the best balance of video quality versus file size. FulGaz videos are available to download in three quality settings. You can set your quality preference in FulGaz settings -> Video Settings.
As a general guide, an hour's worth of FulGaz video is roughly:
10+ GB in 4K quality
2GB in 1080p
1GB or less in 720p
If you find that you get intermittent buffering while streaming rides, we recommend either downloading the ride file in full beforehand, or switching to a lower video resolution setting.
Content Delivery Networks
Once videos are processed and uploaded by our team, they are not streamed or downloaded directly from our server to you. The files are delivered via a content delivery network (CDN). This is a commercial service we use to make streaming much faster on a global scale.
A CDN works by serving up content from a location nearer to you than our server may be. It is designed specifically to deliver video globally with high speed, but it's performance can vary depending on your location relative to the location of your nearest CDN endpoint. There are many of these endpoints spread around the world. This means we have little control over the speed of delivery between the nearest endpoint and your home.
Whilst this might sound like a way of absolving ourselves of responsibility, it is the nature of how video streaming works for all but the largest video providers in the world. Entrusting this task to a specialist service means we can deliver far better results than we could achieve using just our own servers.
