This has nothing to do with finding directions on a map. MAP stands for Maximal Aerobic Power.
It's the ability to do bursts at this intensity that is usually the difference between getting dropped and keeping up, or at the other end of the spectrum, getting away from the group for the win. It's often overlooked and can be trained in fewer sessions than FTP. It's important to build a better aerobic base first, so working on this intensity happens further in to the climbing program.
