How FulGaz events works
Each ride within an event is a timed ride from start to finish, you may see some segments along the way, but it's just the overall time that counts. You can ride an event as many times as you want, only your fastest time will count in the general classification.
Finding the correct ride
you'll find the ride you're looking for in its relevant category. EG if it's part of the Time Trial Series, click on that icon to find your ride.
Make sure your version of FulGaz is up to date
We're improving FulGaz all the time, and we're often adding competition related improvements, so please make sure you've got the latest version from your app store. Usually you know you're up to date if there are no updates available.
Preparing to ride
If you're super-serious, you're going to need to warmup first. We recommend you do this in another ride within FulGaz so you don't run into any problems swapping between apps.
Secrets for best video performance
You don't want to be at the mercy of your internet connection, so we highly recommend downloading the video first to prevent any potential streaming problems. If you have an older iPad or computer, consider downloading 720P resolution video to reduce the load on your device.
Think you're downloading duplicate videos? Don't worry, you're not
Generally, the event rides are copies of an already existing FulGaz ride, so if you download your competition ride, don't panic when it also shows up as another ride in the downloads section of FulGaz, this won't cause any issues.
Can't see the latest stages?
If you can't see any of the newer rides, go to Settings > Update ride list. For Apple Tvs, it's sometimes a good idea to unplug it and plug it back in to make the rides appear.
Running out of gears? Adjust Slope Scaling
If you feel like you're running out of gears, you can adjust your slope scaling at any time during the ride to reduce the slope sent to the trainer. This works in a very similar way to Zwift's Trainer difficulty. It doesn't effect your speed in FulGaz because we base that purely on your watts. Once again. Slope scaling does not effect your speed in FulGaz
Missing your Gender, Age Group or Country?
You can add this at any time by going to members.fulgaz.com/uploads then entering your details there. (The changes will take up to half an hour to appear).
You need to be connected to the internet!
If you are not connected to the internet, you won't be able to upload your result to the leaderboard.
What to do if your result doesn't upload to the leaderboard
If for whatever reason you finish the ride and the upload to the leaderboard doesn't work (it should upload in a few seconds), don't panic, your result isn't lost. Just upload your ride from your ride history. Make sure you select the "Competition" option when you do this.
How we minimise cheating - We're watching!
When you complete any of the stages and upload your data, you're also uploading some key meta data about your setup. These include what trainer you used and your weight. During the competition we will also be looking at the climbing speeds of random competitors outdoors vs indoors.
The only setting you can change to effect performance in FulGaz competitions is rider weight, this gets uploaded with your race result so we can spot male 50+ riders weighing less than school girls ;-)
All other settings are forced to competition-specific defaults
Ride is forced to Reactive mode
Aerodynamic drag (Adjusted automatically according to rider weight)
Bike Weight
Rolling Resistance
Power and speed adjustments
Slope limit
Slope Scaling - Doesn't effect your speed in FulGaz, so you can change it at will
Wheel Size - Doesn't effect your speed in FulGaz, so you can change it at will
Virtual bike
To make things as fair as possible we put everyone on the same virtual equipment. This gives you the equivalent drag numbers for a fast aero road bike with deep carbon wheels, tight fitting clothing and a standard road helmet. Nothing you change in preferences will effect these settings for competitions.
For those of you into Drag numbers, the drag number is the range of 0.34 CdA for an average sized rider. Less for smaller riders, higher for larger riders. There are plans to run events where everyone is on a TT bike or a Gravel bike, depending on the course, but these features have not been implemented yet.
Odd Results
If we think a ride time is wrong, we will remove it first, then ask you some questions and take a look at your .fit file from the ride. In most cases the "cheating" isn't deliberate, but other people tend to get very upset by a freak time and assume the worst first. We can put the ride back if it turns out you're something like a pro using a false name (yes, this has happened in the past!)
