This time last year we introduced you to your new best riding buddy; Bernard the virtual coach and his FulGaz 12 week better climbing program.
The program - and Bernard- were a great success. Thanks to a clear focus on the technical aspects of climbing such as gear selection and cadence instead of just mashing out watts, the program helped many Fulgaz users go on to have a great outdoor summer of cycling.
He’s BAAAACK! By popular demand, Bernard is back with his all-new 12 week FTP program. (More about FTP later). The key difference this time is the sessions are shorter in the easier version of the program, usually from 40 minutes to 55 minutes max, allowing more of you to join in and get the benefit of this professionally written program..
More details on how to start the program and get the best out of it can be found here. This is now the complete program, all in one easy to follow document.
Complete 12 week program guide
For those of you wondering what FTP is, it stands for Functional Threshold Power. Put simply, it is the maximum amount of power you can sustain for an hour. It's used as a benchmark for cycling performance. And while an FTP program sounds just a bit “inside cycling”, here are some other great benefits of this program:
- For those seeking to lose weight, the beginner program is also a great fat burner.
- An increase in your overall cycling fitness.
- Great preparation for a season of outdoor riding; be it racing, recreation, a cycling holiday or bike packing!
Notes
Don't panic if you do way more or less than the volume of riding outlined above. The programs include guides on how to adjust the load to suit your ability and time constraints.

Hi all,
Where are the PDF files of Month 2 and Month 3?
Love the concept of the 12 week FTP program but it’s to many days indoors just as the outdoor riding season is upon me. Advocate for the program to occur January - March. All in at that point
